A visit with Robert Regis Dvorak

Spent an hour with artist, author, and instructor Robert Regis Dvorak (www.youcreate.com) at his home in Sacramento. Bought his latest book, "The practice of drawing as meditation." He showed me his drawing tools. Of particular interest was a "bent nib" pen from China. The tip of the nib is curved up. This type of nib is used for Chinese calligraphy. I actually drew a few marks with his pen. The nib allows one to make marks of various widths, depending on the angle of the pen. It's cool!

After coming home, I found some sources for these pens: eBay and a couple of websites. One (and only) "famous-name" brand is the Hero M86, sold at www.gycpen.com and www.isellpens.com. (Hero is a Chinese pen company.) Read this nice review and see a photo of the nib.
